Lily Evans closed her book with a thud and let out a tiresome sigh. She tossed he hair and walked over to her mirror. An eleven year old girl with long red hair and glowing green eyes looked back at her. She had fair skin with freckles and he smile was addicting. Lily peered at herself and then looked away quickly as a loud rapt on the door stole away her silence.
"Lily, go check the post, I'm on the phone" a blonde hair girl ordered as she poked her head in the door. Lily sighed. "Yes Petunia, sir" she replied in a mock militant tone to her loder sister. Her sister shot her an evil look and walked back out of the room with the phone in hand. Lily grudgingly walked down to the living room and past her mother and father to collect the mail. "Mrs. Evans 31 Flushing Drive, Little Whigging, Surrey, Mrs Evans , Petunia Evans, Loretta Evans, Mr. Evans" Droned Lily as she read the post. Suddenly, she came to a letter which was addressed to her."Lily Evans , the blue and purple bedroom. Flushing drive, Little Whigging Surrey" She said suprised. Shedropped her parents mail in the living room and continued on to her own room. On the way she threw her sisters mail in the room and finally back in her own room she opened her letter. As she read it her face changed drmatically, from happy to amazingly suprised. "Bloody hell" she whispered as she reread the letter. Dear Ms.Evans We are please to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipement. Term begins on September first. WE await your owl no latter then July 31. Yours Sincerly Jane Walsh Deputy Headmisstress She stared blankly at the page as she let the word sink in. She ran down the stairs and into the sitting room. Mrs. Evans looked up at her youngest daughter. "What's wrong honey?" asked Mrs. Evans as Lily thrust the letter into her mothers hand. Loretta Evan's face read the letter amazadly. Her eyes double to nearly the size of Lily's as she silently handed the paper over to Mr. Evans. "Ken" she said "You have to read this." "Dear Ms. Evans we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to." he paused. "Lily, Loretta, what is so amazing about this Lily has been accepted to St. Maries." Both mother and daughter urged him to continue reading. "WE are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of WitchCraft and what!!" exclaimed Mr. Evans. "Lily, you're a, a," he stammered unable to say the word. "Yes" replied Lily. "I guess I am a witch. Isn't it brilliant?" Lily stared hopefully at both of her parents. Finally, after an akward pause Mrs. Evans speaks. "Well, I think that you should definetly go. I think it would be wonderful to have a witch in the family." Loretta beamed at her daughter. Ken wasn't as happy. "You actually want her to go, to this, school. I mean, it would be a bit strange." Mrs. Evans shot her husband a look that Lily knew all to well. It was the look that Petunia gave her ever time that she wanted to be right. "Yes, of course, it would be wonderful if you went Lily, love." said Mr. Evans finally. Lily kissed both of her parents as she raced out of the room. She bumped into her sister as she ran up the stairs to her room. "Petuia, can you believe it? I'm a witch." Petunia stared at her with a mixture of disdain and disgust as her sister left the room. "I'm a witch." thought Lily to herself. "And I am going to a school to learn how to use magic. This is going to be a great year." she thought as she looked at herself in the mirror. "This will be a very great year" "Mum" shouted a boy as he jumped down the last three stairs of the stair way. "Mum, Mum, MUM WHERE ARE YOU!" he yelled as he shook his black hair out of his eyes. Finally, a voice came back to him from a seemingly long distance. "I'm in the sitting room, and if you had any sense you would have asked Kretcher instead of running about like some mudblood brat. " Sirius Black rolled his light brown eyes and headed back up the stairs that he had just raced down. As he walked into the sitting room he saw that his mother had company, which meant that he would just get told off even more. His mother hadn't seen him at the door she continue her tirade about her least favorite son. "Honsetly, he runs about the house like he has no common sense. He would rather be out playing some bloody muggle sport then in here learning curses with his brother. He doesn't" she was abruptly inturrupted as Sirius walked in. "I don't act like a Black should. I run around with muggle children, and I hate the blasted house elves. I've heard the story and I'm sure that Mary-Anna has heard the story more times than she would care to." He said say he smiled curteously at his mother's guest. The glint of mischef that was in his eyes combine with the smile made Sirius Black capable of weasling his way out of almost everything. "WEll, what do you want?" His mother asked impatiently. "I just wanted to tell you that i have gotten my letter to Hogwarts and" he would have finished his sentence but his mother intruppeted. "Yes, of course you've gotten you're letter. HEaven's forbid that we should have some sort of squib in the Black family and tarnishing the Black name. Even though you probably will, by ending up in some other house the Slytherin. Heaven help you Sirius if you end up in Gryffindor." "Well, you don't have to worry about that mother dearest" he said sarcastically "beacause I have written to them and told them that I wasn't going to go." within the blink of an eye pink suds where foaming out of Sirius's mouth as his mother screamed. "Sirius Xavier Black, wash out your mouth. Could you imagine what your father would say if he heard you you say that? You know what he would say. Crucio is what he would say and your screams would be heard throughout the whole bloody neighborhood." Sirius was barely able to speak through the foam pouring out of his mouth, and barely able to be heard over his mother shouts. "Mum" he said through a mouth full of suds. "I was only joking. Iam not as dense as to do that." He spit some more of the suds on the floor and stormed out of the room. When he finally got to his room the spell was wearing off and he was now only hiccuping the occasonal bubble. He immedatly grabbed up his quill and some parchment and scrolled a hasty letter to his best friend. James mate, I 've just got my letter and of course I mangaed to make my dear mum upset. I have no idea how. WEll, yes I do but I'll explain it when I get to your house tomorrow. I'm spending the night. I would come tonight but as I said my mum is a bit angry with me. Sirius Sirius grabbed his owl off its perch and tied the letter to it's leg hurridly. He tossed it out the window and silently hoped that it got to James the same night. He then threw himself onto his bed and counted down the days until he could leave this hell hole he called home. It wasn't soon enough. James Potter sat staring restlessly at the ceiling. It seemed as though with his choclate eyes he was trying to bore a hole into it. He got off of his bed and started pacing around the room, occasonally running his hand through his already messy black hair. He went to his desk and grabbed his Qudditch Through The Ages book. He sat and numbly looked through it not really reading it at all. Finally, he tossed it aside and started pacing again. There is a tap on the window and James nearly jumps out of his skin. He sees a milky white owl hovering outside and immediatly knows who its from. "Sirius" he mumbles under his breathe as he untied the parchment from the owls leg. He immediatly sits down and scrawls an untidy message to his friend. What did you do this time mate. I haven't gotten my letter yet. Could you imagine what my father would say if he found out that I was a squib or soemthing? I think he would disown me. Well, I'll see you tomorrow then I guess mate. James The white owl was now twittering around madly above James's head. "Come down here Inky!" shouted James at the owl. He jumped and grabbed the ankle by its scrawny leg. He tied the parechment and let the owl out of the window. Before he could even sit down a voice carried up the stair. "Jame dear, have you recieved your letter yet?" his mother asked. "Not yet mum, I might not get it tonight, maybe I'll get it tomorrow if not today." he replied. "Well, tell me the instant that you get it so I can owl your father and tell him." James rolled his eyes. He knew that his father really wouldn't care one way or another. Everyone knew that James had magical blood, and there was no way that he wasn't getting into Hogwarts. As long as he got into Gryffindor or Slytherin then his father would be fine. His father only cared that the name Potter was carried on with pride and dignity. James stared listlessly out of the window. He saw something about a quarter mile away on the horizon. At first he couldn't tell what it was and then slowly it came into focus. James grabbed his broomstick from his chest at the foot of his bed and lept out the window. He had no thoughts but to get to that owl that he saw on the horizon because if he was right then it would be his letter accepting him to Hogwarts. He reached the owl in a matter of five minutes and tore the letter off of its leg. Tearing the letter open James read the first few words and let out a loud yell of excitement. "Mr Potter we are pleased to inform you. Yes! " with that he turned back to his house and plummeted through the window. "Mum, I got my letter. I'm in!" he bellowed down the stairs. He threw himself backwards onto his bed and was finally able to relax. Remus Lupin sat reading his book by candle light. The sun was just starting to set and the candle light played in his light brown hair. His eyes glowed and amber yellow. They were almost the color of honey. The title of the book was written in gold and was Standerd Spells grade 2. So intently focused on the books was Remus that he didn't notice an owl hovering outside of his window. It took the owl almost two minutes to get the boys attention and even then he was slow on opening the window. Him and his mother recived very little mail and when they did it was always for his mother. He opened his mouth to call his mother to tell her that she got mail when he read the letter head. It was adressed to him. He opened it with trembling hands. Suddenly, his face lit with a smile. He let out a whoop of excitement as he read and reread the letter that he had in his hands. His mother was drawn by the sound of his shout. "Remus, honey what is it?" She could see the elation on the boy's face and truly wondered what had made her usually solemn son so happy. He thrust the letter into his mothers hand and before she could finish reading it he shouted "I got in! Dumbledore let me in mum. I get to go to Hogwarts!!" The grin on his face reached from ear to ear. His eyes, even with the bags underneath, glowed. His face even with the scratches and scars shined with happiness. "Remus honey, I'm so happy for you. This is going to be so great for you. I know that this is what you've wanted and I'm just so happy that Dumbeldore has let you in." She stood back and looked at him. Her face taking on the usual conern. "Honey, you know that most of your things are going to be second hand. I mean, things haven't been easy, especially since, since your father left." Remus nodded. He thought back to when he was six years old and his father had left that house ranting and raving that his son was a freak and was going to be an outcast. For once he thought back on that day five years past and didn't cringe. He didn't care about it any more. He was gonig to Hogwarts and he was going to be something. Remus kissed his mother cheek. "Mum, I'm going to write back to them and tell them that I'm going. Then I'm going to finish my book." His mother smiled. "Of course dear, Of course. We'll go into Diagon Alley tomorrow I guess." With that his mother walked outof the room. Remus grabbed a quill and wrote to Hogwarts thea he would be attening and thanked Dumbledore profusly for letting him in. Finally, he settled back into his chair and continued reading. Thud, Thud, Thud, was all that was heard in the house. The window panes that lined the stairway shooks slightly as a slightly heavy boy pounded up and down the stairs. He was breathing heavily and his blonde hair was plastered to his head with sweat. "Peter darling what are you doing?" as a pretty blonde woman from the bottom of the stairs. "I'm waiting for my letter mum." replied Peter. "Well, tell me when you get it. I'll be in the kitchen starting dinner." with that she left the bottom of the stair and pots and pans could be heard. Thud, thud, thud, shake, shake, shake. That was all that could be heard for the next five minutes as Peter's footsteps pounded the stairs. Finally, partly from exuastion, and partly from annoyance he collapsed onto the stairs, tears silently streaming down his eyes. "I can't be a squib. I just can't be. I don't know what I would do if I was. My father would kill me. I know he would. I can't be a squib. I can't be. I just can't be. Oh bloddy hell, I'm a squib." with that he broke unrestranidly into tears. In his tears he didn't notice an owl hovering in the evening light. Finally, as he looked up with little hope left he saw the owl and dried his tears. He opened the window and fiercely tore the letter off the poor things leg. He hurled the owl back out the window and ripped the letter open. Peter laughed a little in relief he read the first few lines and raced down the stairs to the kitchen. "I got my letter mum. Look here, I got it. I got in." he said brandishing the papers in his mother's face. "I'm so happy for you" she exclaimed, visibly relieved that her son had finally recieved his acceptance letter to Hogwarts. "Well, this merits a celebration. Anything you want for dessert darling I will make it for you." Immediatly, he set off naming anything sweet that he could think of, finally landing on a triple layer chocolate cake. After deciding that, he went of to his room. He threw himself on to his bed and smiled up at the ceiling. 'I knew I couldn't be a squib' he thought to himself. |
